And replace fossil fuels with what - wind and solar? In case you can't figure it out on your own, wind and solar are not possible without fossil fuels, from cradle to grave. Fossil fuel energy is required to power the machinery needed to mine the raw materials used to manufacture all components of wind turbines and solar panels. Fossil fuel energy is required to transport the materials to and from the manufacturing facility, and to power the manufacturing facility itself. Fossil fuel energy is required to dismantle and dispose of wind and solar when their useful life is over - generally in about 15 years. As for climate change, there is a lot more that we don't know than we do. However, we do know that if we want a greener planet, we want more co2, not less since green things grow faster, larger, and produce more of what we need and want while using less water when co2 levels are far higher than what they are now.

Sure there's a lot we don't know but what we know for sure is that business-as-usual, burning fossil fuel at anywhere near current rates, degrades the only habitat that can sustain humanity. This is reality. There are many fronts we can attack this problem. Adopting a defeatist attitude and some unsupported notion that more CO2 is good for us are unhealthy and unsupported positions. Apathy, denial, defeatism, and ignorance will put our future generations at risk. When you are less than a memory they will be all that's left. Consider it self-preservation!  Phillip - the only "bots" are the drones who foolishly embrace false/political "science". Contrary to the often heard statement "the debate is over", I'll suggest to you that the debate (e.g. a forum where two or more sides of an issue are debated with facts, evidence, and equal time to do so) has barely begun. Your side has all the left leaning institutions in its corner (media, academia, Hollywood, etc.) but no facts on its side. With the advent of alternative media growing beyond the control of the old guard, there are more outlets for the truth to see the light of day. Hence the "fairness doctrine" push by your side.

Changing a society can be expedited if there is a stated enemy. Mr. Obama's enemies are Republicans and climate change. All other potential enemies, such as ISIS, are inconsequential. Changing a society is also expedited by man people voicing their disgust in the status quo. For that we can raise a beer to the thousands of college students who work hard to tell us what a failure our country is starting with its inception nearly 400 years ago and how messed up everyone has been since then. Climate change is a tool used to show how messed up we are today. After all we are killing the earth in their minds even if the scientific evidence is not clear on the matter.

Among the informed there is no debate over the core issue. We are warming the planet mainly without CO2 emissions and the consequences are not good. If anyone thinks otherwise I invite them to review the current state of the science. There are plenty of links on my website. If you think you have credible evidence to the contrary you'll find an email address there. I'd love to see your argument. Keep in mind that EVERY respected scientific institution concurs with the overwhelming consensus. The only real debates are what we can do about it, how quickly can we make it happen, and how much damage is unavoidable. This argument is so worn out and wrong that you should be ashamed of posting it. Scientific facts are established not by polling scientists but by following the scientific method (replicability, falsifiability, etc). While measurements show that the Earth's temperature fluctuates (rising in the eighties and nineties, and unchanged for the past eighteen years or so), the linkage to CO2 emissions is purely model based. These models are fairly crude, prone to misspecification and manipulation. No hard facts here. The "science" of climate change discussed by the people attending the Paris conference is not a science of a natural phenomenon. Climate change to them, and our President, is more of a political science. Political science deals in polls, power and money, not science. The only thing that is settled is that political science is an oxymoron.

The EU won't exist in 10 years, so not sure what good signing agreements with them will do anybody. Global warming is a pseudo-scientific scam. We already are paying for the Chinese military buildup with the interest from all the T-bills they own because of all our "stimulus" and bailout spending. What exactly do we have to show for that again? . Now we're going to pay to clean up the Chinese environment? The statists don't have much left to tax. Nobody has any money in Europe and we're about 10 years behind on the current insane debt expansion program that we've embarked on. The rationale appears to be that fossil fuel companies have deep pockets and people have to heat/cool their homes and get to work. Then only way to squeeze more money is to go after something that can be demonized and that we have to use. In the face of all the mission critical problems that Western democracies have to deal with, this shouldn't be on that list.
