Customer Testimonials

Already explained it, Clay, several times. To repeat: It's not complex. I have done science. In college. Taught me a lot about the scientific method and the process of doing science. Also learned a lot through a friend who got his PhD in neuroscience. There is no appeal to authority in anything I wrote, except that I have seen the "calm, deeply thoughtful patience" it takes to do good science. Are you disputing that? You erroneously thought I said I did "the science" of climate change, which obviously isn't the case, but you can't bring yourself to admit your error. As outrageous as it may seem to you, I'm asking you to respond to the content of the article, which includes many points of fact and logic on the subject matter, by people who truly have studied in depth. Would also like to hear your response to the point you made about the Miami drainage system, refuted by a WSJ staff member. You misunderstand the issue of low atmospheric carbon: The lower the level, the colder the planet; the higher the level, the warmer the planet. Plant death, other than from drought and high-temperatures isn't the problem at all.  A CO2 level of 400 ppm may not seem like much to you, you call it a trace gas, but as the data you cited clearly demonstrates, halve it and you get a global ice-age.  What does that tell you about more than doubling the level of CO2 from the depth of that ice-age, and almost doubling it from the pre-industrial era, with no end in sight?  What your post clearly demonstrates in the sensitivity of our climate to CO2: that's probably not what you intended, but it's what you did.

Temperature mostly drives natural CO2 levels, and not so much the other way around. Remember that cold water holds more gas than warm water, and over 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. Also, data from the past thousands of years show that CO2 levels followed the changes in temperature, they did not lead them. That points to oceans warming and then releasing CO2. The levels are not driven by temperature, except to the extent that variations in rainfall change the rate of weathering of limestone. Historically, two main factors have mediated the level of atmospheric CO2: 1. Volcanic activity increasing CO2 2. The rise of photosynthesizing plants capturing CO2 before land animals existed in sufficient quantity to liberate that CO2 by using it as a source of energy. This reduced CO2. Episodes of snowball-earth and hothouse-earth, along with mass extinctions, resulted. Data from the past thousands of years, and millions and billions too, show a clear causal relationship between levels of CO2 in the atmosphere and temperatures, with temperature change succeeding CO2 changes. I don't know what evidence of a reverse causal relationship you are quoting, or any way such a relationship could work.
